Do you love each other, but desire has faded or disappeared? Discover why this happens in many couples, what polarity (yin/yang) means, and how tantra can help you reconnect with attraction.

When love is there, but desire seems to be gone

In our massage space in Girona, many couples tell us something like this:

  • “We love each other deeply, but we haven’t felt desire for a long time.”
  • “We feel more like flatmates and parents than lovers.”
  • “I don’t know what happened, but something between us has gone quiet.”

This can create a great deal of guilt and fear:

  • “Maybe we are no longer attracted to each other.”
  • “Maybe we have stopped loving each other.”
  • “Maybe there is no solution.”

The good news is that, in many cases, love has not ended. What has been neglected is the element that originally ignited attraction: polarity.

Love and desire are not always nourished by the same things

As our teacher Verma explains:

“Why can two people who love each other stop desiring each other?
Because love and desire are not always nourished by the same things.”

Over time, we build intimacy, safety, trust, routines, shared projects and family life.

All of this can be wonderful for love and partnership. Yet, if we do not consciously care for erotic connection, it can gradually dim sexual spark.

Many couples end up living from a very similar energy:

  • Both people are focused on parenting.
  • Both people are managing the home.
  • Both are operating as logistical partners.

This can strengthen the bond, but it may also neutralise polarity. And when polarity becomes neutralised, sexual attraction can decrease—even when there is still deep love.

What is polarity, and why does it matter for desire?

From a tantric perspective, desire needs a certain amount of difference: a tension between two poles.

We can call these poles:

  • Masculine and feminine.
  • Yin and yang.
  • Or simply two different energies that attract each other.

This is not only about being a man or a woman. It is about recognising your natural polarity and observing what happens to it within your relationship.

These are simplified examples, and every couple may experience them differently:

  • A more yang energy can be active, leading, initiating or moving towards the other person.
  • A more yin energy can be receptive, open, welcoming and allowing the other person to come closer.

When both partners remain in a very similar energy all the time—for example, both operating from management, control or constant responsibility—the tension that can support attraction may fade.

As Verma says:

“Caring for a relationship is not only about communicating better, healing our wounds or learning how to live together.
We also need to ask ourselves:
Are we still nourishing what makes us desire one another?”

Sometimes desire has not disappeared because love has ended. We may simply have stopped nourishing the difference that once sparked attraction.

Spontaneous desire and responsive desire

You may have heard of spontaneous desire: desire that seems to arise “out of nowhere.” There is also responsive desire: desire that emerges in response to touch, an atmosphere, a look, emotional closeness or a shared moment.

In long-term relationships, it is common for spontaneous desire to decrease and for responsive desire to become more important.

This is not a problem. It is a natural way of experiencing desire.

What often happens is that couples:

  • Live with stress.
  • Have little quality time.
  • Touch each other rarely, and usually with a goal in mind.
  • Do not create contexts where responsive desire can awaken.

When both people are also permanently in the same energy—such as parents, managers or work partners—the body may register safety and trust, but not necessarily sexual attraction.

How tantra can help rekindle attraction as a couple

Tantra is not a magic technique, but it can be a powerful tool for restoring presence, touch and a shared erotic space.

Stepping out of the “logistics couple” role

During a Couples Tantra session or a tantric massage workshop, you are no longer only the people who organise the week, care for the family or resolve pending tasks.

You become two bodies that feel.

Creating a safe space for responsive desire

There is no pressure to “perform,” reach orgasm or achieve a particular result.

When that pressure is removed, the nervous system can relax. Desire can arise in response to conscious touch, breathing, eye contact and shared time.

Exploring polarity consciously

We invite you to explore different qualities of energy:

  • Moments when one person takes a more active or guiding role.
  • Moments when the other person allows themselves to receive, open and feel.
  • The possibility of switching and discovering what changes.

This is not about acting out rigid “male” and “female” roles. It is about discovering which energies awaken you, how you enjoy approaching each other and what kind of difference helps you feel attracted again.

Returning to touch without a goal

Many couples only touch when they are about to have sex, or for a quick goodbye kiss before leaving home.

Tantric massage invites you to return to touch simply for the pleasure of feeling: without rushing and without a goal. For many couples, the absence of pressure opens a new path towards intimacy and attraction.

Questions to begin exploring together

If you recognise yourselves in the phrase, “We love each other, but desire has faded,” you might begin by asking:

  • When did we stop caring for polarity between us?
  • Are we spending too much time in the same energy: parents, managers or work partners?
  • When was the last time we touched each other without pressure or a goal?
  • What small ritual could we create to reconnect with the difference that attracts us: massage, a bath, breathing together or looking at each other for a few minutes?

A space to rekindle attraction

In our Couples Tantra sessions and tantric massage workshops, we offer:

  • A safe, ethical and non-judgemental environment.
  • Professional support for all bodies and identities.
  • Tools to reconnect with conscious touch, presence and polarity.

This is not about becoming who you were at the beginning of your relationship. It is about discovering how you can desire each other now—with the history you have, the love you have built and the life you share.

If you would like to explore how tantra can help you reconnect with attraction as a couple, discover our sessions and workshops or contact us so we can guide you.
